How to Use Web 2.0 Sites Effectively

Well we have all built our businesses over the years by trying to find people to get to our site as well as trying to getting the might Google to rank us highly. Over the last few years though there has been a new type of traffic that can make a big difference, bringing people to us instead of us being at the mercy of a search engine.

These new sites, dubbed web 2.0, but really just sites that have user interaction and "regular people" generated content and links can change the way that we interact and get traffic. The cynical in our business will say that these systems are a way to game the system but people buy, people visit, and people know people so if you have info that people are looking for than the traffic can come with just a bit of work.

What Kind of Sites are Web 2.0 and How Do We Work Them?

There are a few kinds of sites that we can look at and methods that we can use to gain traffic. These different kind of sites are different but useful to you. Let's just dive in.

Facebook, MySpace, and friend sites - These sites work by allowing us to get together with lots of people that we already know. The feel of these sites is like you are at a big 24 hour a day party where people post info and say what they are feeling and other people can comment back or "like" those comments. To use this just b honest. TYell people when you are giving your links and give a reason when you are giving them. There is high trust in these areas and when you spam people they will never trust you again.

Twitter, Plurk, and other short messaging - These sites are just quick comment sites where you can shout out what you want. There is a high noise - low content feel to these sites where i can say what I had for dinner and then post a link to a site, and then comment on a TV show. To be successful in these sites you need to build up a following and then you need to drop the links to these people that you want to let them know about. Again if you spam these sites you will lose followers and have no community
