There are a few kinds of sites that we can look at and methods that we can use to gain traffic. These different kind of sites are different but useful to you. Let's just dive in.

Facebook, MySpace, and friend sites - These sites work by allowing us to get together with lots of people that we already know. The feel of these sites is like you are at a big 24 hour a day party where people post info and say what they are feeling and other people can comment back or "like" those comments. There is high trust in these areas and when you spam people they will never trust you again.

Twitter, Plurk, and other short messaging - These sites are just quick comment sites where you can shout out what you want. There is a high noise - low content feel to these sites where i can say what I had for dinner and then post a link to a site, and then comment on a TV show. To be successful in these sites you need to build up a following and then you need to drop the links to these people that you want to let them know about. Again if you spam these sites you will lose followers and have no community
